The Blue Lake Forest Education Society is a non-profit, charity organization that focuses on providing experiential education opportunities to youth. The Society operates a year round outdoor education centre located 26 km West of Canal Flats, BC. The Centre offers residential camping experiences, outdoor education programs, and a summer camp program for children and youth.

The formal mission statement of the Society is:
The Blue Lake Forest Education Society is a non-profit organization existing for charitable purposes based in the Kootenay / Columbia region of British Columbia that encourages responsible stewardship of forestlands by informed citizens. The Society’s primary focus is to deliver a variety of experiential education programs to the region’s youth by operating an outdoor school. These programs inspire a balanced ecological awareness and foster social responsibility to one another.

The Society is seeking an individual that is team-oriented, efficient, and skilled to fill the position of Children’s Camp Cook. The successful candidate will have completed or be in the process of obtaining professional training and have experience in preparing food for large groups. This organized individual will have the ability to deal with multiple activities, events and issues at the same time, work well under pressure, manage stress, and be able to work well with a diverse staff team comprised mainly of youth and young adults. Candidate must have Food Safe Level 1. Additional training and special certifications in food preparation and handling is an asset.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will prepare menus and meals for groups ranging in size from 20- 120, accommodate special meal requirements, complete food orders, manage and maintain cleanliness in the kitchen and food storage areas, maintain a safe and professional working environment, ensure all food related operations are meeting all health and safety standards, work with the designated food and kitchen supply budgets, and address any concerns with the Camp Director.

Start Date: July 30th, 2010. Contract ends August 21st, 2010.

Remuneration: $120-$140 per day, approximately 4-5 days per week. Room and board are provided while at the Blue Lake Centre.
